Dialogue 1 (Question 1- 5)
K: Keila; C: Claire
K: Did you have a nice weekend?
C: Yeah, it was good.
K: What did you do?
C: Oh, nothing much. I went for a walk with some friends around Sutton Park yesterday.
K: Oh, nice. It was a lovely clear day.
C: Yeah. It was a bit cold, but it was great. I was taking photos with my new camera.
K: That one? Let's have a look. Wow! That's really neat. Where did you get it?
C: In Jessops in town. I'm really pleased with it. It's really good quality and it's got quite a few different functions.
K: Really? Is it complicated to use?
C: No, not really. There are a few things I don't know yet, but it's OK.
K: Yeah. Well, the pictures look good and it's nice and light as well.
C: Yeah, it's great. Anyway, what about you? Did you do anything?
K Yeah, I went shopping with my cousin Sam.
C: Oh OK. Did you buy anything nice?
K: Well, I got these earrings.
C: They're lovely! They look quite old.
K: Yeah they are. I got them in a second-hand shop near here. They've got all kinds of things there - book, CDs, clothes. I got this jacket there.
C: Really? I love it. It looks really nice and warm.
K: Yeah, it is. It's pure wool and it's nice and thick. And it only cost fifteen pounds.
C: You're joking! That's fantastic. It really suits you as well. It's a great style and colour!
C: Did Sam get any clothes, Keila?
K: No, there were some really nice things, but she didn't find anything that fit her. Everything was either too big or too small.
Dialogue 2 (Question 6 - 8)
(I = Interviewer; M = Michael)
I: Michael, you've had the opportunity to taste some of the more unusual dishes from around the world. Can you tell us something about them, and in particular, what they taste like?
M: Well, did you know that in Colombia, cinemas serve roasted ants instead of popcorn?
I: Really? What are they like?
M: Um, sweet and crisp...delicious actually. I also ate barbecued lizard in South America, but that was a bit disappointing. It was a bit bland....not particularly tasty. On the other hand, lizard eggs made a much more interesting dish. After ten minutes boiling in very salty water, they made a very tasty evening snack. A bit too salty for my taste, but very good.
I: How about shark fin soup? Have you ever tried that?
M: Only one, in China. It's very expensive and takes ages to prepare. But it's delicious. The taste depends on how the chef prepares it, but when I ate it, it was quite spicy and not particularly fishy. Anyway, what about you? Have you ever eaten anything strange?
I: Well, I'm not as adventurous as you, and I've never been out of Europe...
M. Oh, really? You should go somewhere, try something special and enjoy your life!
Dialogue 3 (Question 9 - 10)
Mary: Hey, Joseph. A bunch of us are going to go out tonight after work. Would you like to come with us?
Joseph: Oh, thanks Mary. I'd love to, but my back is killing me!
Mary: Oh no.
Joseph: Yeah. Well, I was working out at the gym yesterday, and I ... I think I overdid it.
Mary: Oh, you poor thing. Well, what are you going to do for it?
Joseph: Nothing, really.
Mary: You know what? You should see if your gym has... uh... one of those saunas.
Joseph: Well, yeah, I think they do, but I... I've never used it.
Mary: Oh, you should try it. It will really relax your sore muscles.
Dialogue 4 (Question 11 - 12)
Amanda:Well, I... I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it.
Dialogue 5 ( Question 13 - 14 )
Mary: Hey, Mark. Are you OK?
Mark: Not really...
Mary: Can I help you?
Mark: Yes, I would like something for a bad stomach, please.
Mary: Does it hurt or have you been sick?
Mark: Not sick. It's more gas. It's uncomfortable.
Mary: OK. It sounds like indigestion. It's after you eat, right?
Mary: And you're going to the toilet normally? No diarrhoea?
Mark: Diarrhoea? No.
Mary: Ok, so I think these are what you need. They are indigestion tablets. You mix them with water and drink them after your meals. They're the most effective, I think.
Mary: What flavour would you like? Orange or blackcurrant?
Mark: Oh. Orange.
Mary: Don't take more than 4 tablets a day - and if they don't deal with the problem, consult your doctor.
Mark: Ok, Thanks. I will.
Dialogue 6 ( Question 15 - 16 )
Mary: Hey, Brad. Uh... a-are you OK?
Brad: Oh, hey Mary. Do you happen to have any aspirin? I've got a terrible headache.
Mary: Uh, no, I-I'm sorry. Actually, though, I do know of a really good natural cure for headaches.
Brad: Oh, good. I'll try anything.
Mary: OK, well, this may sound a... a little strange, (OK) but you take an onion, and then you cut it in half.
Brad: An onion?
Mary: OK, well, then you put the onion halves on the sides of your head, and then you tie a towel around your head just to keep them in place. And, oh, OK, it's a little smelly, but it always works.
Brad: Oh, uh... yeah. Well, thanks, but...uh... you know, I-I think my headache's starting feel better after all.
